Nigeria police force has arrested 24 suspects
over alleged cybercrime and other related offenses. The spokesperson for the
police, Frank Mba, disclosed in a statement that the suspects comprising of 23
males and one female were allegedly involved in romance and online dating scams.
Some of the items recovered from the suspects include 11 laptop computers; 37
mobile phones.
He said the suspects also developed fake bank alerts, hacking and
fraudulent wire transfers, cyberstalking and impersonation of high-profile
personalities in Nigeria and across the world. Mba disclosed that some of the
items recovered from the suspects include 11 laptop computers; 37 mobile phones;
11 SIM cards of different telecoms networks; 5 international passports; 12 ATM
cards; fake US dollar notes. The spokesperson stated that the suspects will be
charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
The police also assured
Nigerians of its resolve to rid the country of all forms of crimes and
criminality including cybercrimes. The force urged citizens to redirect their
energy to the positive utilization of the cyberspace, cyber resources, and shun
negative influences.
Meanwhile, Nigerian singer and former Psquare member Paul
Okoye, also known as King Rudy, has taken to social media to speak on the issue
of yahoo boys known for flaunting their wealth online. According to him, their
forefathers had engaged in these fraudulent activities but were never loud.
However, people who are now involved in these crimes are fond of showing off on
social media. The Audio Money crooner went on to add that even before INTERPOL,
EFCC and other authorities make their arrests, social media users especially the
ones fond of commenting under people's posts, have long figured them out.
Police
detain APC leader over alleged financial misappropriation in another report, the
deputy speaker of Benue state House of Assembly, Christopher Adaji, has been
arraigned by the EFCC at the state high court in Makurdi, Benue state. New
Telegraph reports that Adaji was arraigned alongside the clerk of the house,
Torese Agena, over alleged fraud to the tune of N5,040,950. Legit.ng gathered
that this was contained in a statement by the EFCC's head of media, Ayodele
Babatunde. They were both arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on
conspiracy, bribery, criminal breach of trust and abuse of office. They,
